Yellow fever prevention
Yellow fever is a viral disease transmitted by
several types of mosquito. It is endemic in South America and over 30
countries in sub-Saharan Africa. It causes over 200,000 deaths per year
in locals of these areas and there have been 6 deaths in unvaccinated
travellers from Europe and the US since 1996.
Vaccination is considered safe and effective and is advisable in risk
areas even if not a requirement. However, for several countries, Yellow
Fever immunisation is a requirement and without evidence of satisfactory
vaccination travellers will not be admitted at immigration control.
The University Health Service is a licensed Yellow Fever Centre and we
are able to provide vaccination and certification for our patients.
Please book an appointment for our travel clinics via reception to see
if you require yellow fever immunisation for your travel plans.
Please note, a charge is payable for vaccination & certification and for
certificate re-issue. Further information on the
vaccine is available in our travel leaflets section for
yellow fever and
yellow fever vaccination. |
