Suspension of new registrations

On 6/10/2008, with great regret, we were forced to announce the unprecedented step of suspending new registrations to our list, because we had reached the maximum number of patients the practice could reasonably and efficiently handle.

We have been working with the University over the last few years on various initiatives to increase our building size or to re-locate, which unfortunately have not been successful. We have been looking for other partners (such as a pharmacy) to develop our services & increase our working space, but in the current economic climate, most private ventures are looking to contract (rather than expand) their capital investment plans.

Throughout 2008 we worked with our local PCT to reorganise our practice boundary to reduce the size of our list. We had reached 16,000 patients and this was proving simply unworkable for us, so this hard decision had to be taken.

We felt it was critically important that we keep our list open until the end of the of registration week, so that freshers may have the opportunity to join us. However, at the end of that week, our list had again grown to over 14,500, so the decision to declare our list "full" was taken.

We will continue to review our list size and once it falls, we may be able to accept new registrations. We are working closely with the local PCT to manage this problem.
